The new Staria Camper concept shows what would happen if Hyundai decided to make a campervan out of its new Staria Electric.

Motorhomes and campervans have been making a comeback in the past few years, and it seems like Hyundai is also joining the bandwagon. That is because the Korean automaker has showcased its new campervan concept at this year’s Caravan, Motor und Touristik Show in Germany, based on the newly-unveiled Staria Electric MPV.

Simply dubbed the Hyundai Staria Camper Concept, Hyundai has created this all-electric campervan to explore how its popular MPV could “evolve into a premium recreational vehicle tailored to the European market.”

Designed for off-grid travel, the Staria Camper concept has been equipped with several camping goodies, with the most prominent two being the retractable canopy and the power pop-out roof. What’s interesting about the latter is that Hyundai has installed a 520-watt solar panel on the roof itself, which is good for generating up to 2.6 kW of electricity per day—enough to power onboard equipment without draining the battery for driving.

Another unique feature of this campervan concept is the electronically adjustable smart glass for privacy, where the rear windows can be controlled via a dedicated touchscreen control panel that enables users to adjust their transparency instantly. Hyundai also added that the smart glass offers “significantly improved UV, thermal, and acoustic insulation compared with conventional glass,” although traditional curtains are also available in case that wasn’t enough.

The final addition to the Staria Camper’s exterior is both the water and electrical hookups located near the taillights for easier connection to exterior power or water sources.

Inside, Hyundai has put a lot of emphasis on making the Staria Camper’s interior as modular as possible, where the second- and third-row seats can be flat-folded to create an expansive bed space enough to fit two adults comfortably. There’s also a long countertop with a built-in sink and a small refrigerator, plus a folding table, dedicated lights, and some extra storage spaces. The standard front seats, on the other hand, have been replaced with two swiveling units for better modularity.

While this all-electric campervan exists as a concept for now, Hyundai did mention some plans to make it into an actual production model, with the company now actively seeking feedback from a “cross-section of camping, caravan, and adventure enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond.” Should this Staria Camper concept become an actual production model, it would serve as a good alternative to other popular European campervans such as the Mercedes-Benz Vito, the Volkswagen California, and many more.
