IKM Besut Strengthens EV Training with JomCharge AC Charger

Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Besut is strengthening its push into green technology with the installation of Terengganu’s first EV charging station at a MARA TVET campus, marking a new milestone in electric vehicle education and infrastructure in the state.
Terengganu MARA director Mohd Farris Radzuan said the single-unit ABB AC charger, operated by JomCharge, is located within the IKM Besut campus and is open for use by EV owners in the district as well as motorists travelling through the area.
He said the facility supports both teaching needs and public use, providing a convenient charging stop for out-of-district drivers making long-distance journeys.

“EV users can activate charging by scanning the QR code at the station, with payments completed online,” he said after officiating the charging station launch, which was also attended by IKM Besut director Ir. Abdul Athar Ibrahim, according to Bernama.
Mohd Farris added that the charging station aligns with IKM Besut’s long-term ambition to become a reference centre for emerging technologies, particularly electric vehicles, electrification and sustainable energy solutions.

To complement the new facility, IKM Besut has also received two electric vehicles, a BYD Atto 3 and a Proton e.MAS 5 under the Eastern Zone TVET Rationalisation Programme by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW).
The vehicles will be used by Diploma in Automotive Technology students for hands-on training, specifically in EV system applications.
He said the programme already includes modules covering hybrid and electric vehicles, with plans to establish a dedicated EV Centre once the institute’s new academic building is completed by the end of 2027.
At the time of publication, the charging station had yet to go live on the JomCharge mobile app or be listed on PlugShare.
