Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton Debuts in Thailand – Malaysia Soon?
The third-gen Mitsubishi Triton made its global debut in Thailand today
After months of teasers and previews, the all-new Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck has finally made its global debut in Thailand today. Aside from our northern neighbouring kingdom, this third-gen Triton will also make its debut in several regional markets, including the ASEAN, Oceania, as well as its home market in Japan.
2024 Mitsubishi Triton Pick-up Truck
Based on the XRT Concept, the new Triton boasts the ‘Beast Mode’ design concept, featuring many aggressive lines and boxy-esque shapes. Up front lies the marque’s latest take on the signature Dynamic Shield face, which features a rectangular front grille flanked by three L-shaped LED headlights, with a slim DRL light bar sitting on top of it.
From the side, the new Triton sports prominent front fenders that blend rather well with the rectangular pick-up truck silhouette. At the rear, this truck comes with T-shaped LED taillights, as well as a subtle tailgate-mounted rear spoiler, which Mitsubishi claims will help to improve the new Triton’s aerodynamics.

As for the colourways, this new truck is offered with two new colourways – Yamabuki Orange Metallic and Blade Silver Metallic, on top of the existing hue options like Graphite Grey Metallic, White Diamond, and many more.

For the Thai market, the next-gen Triton is offered in three body types – a five-seater double cab, a single cab with one row of seat, as well as a club cab with cargo space behind the front seats that is also reclinable, providing better flexibility for passengers or cargo needs.
In terms of dimensions, the third-gen Triton bulks up a bit compared to its previous model. In its maxed-out double cab 4WD form, the new Triton measures 5,360 MM long, 1,930 MM wide, 1,815 MM tall, with a wheelbase of 3,130 MM, outrightly putting it as one of the biggest models in its segment. For comparison, the current-gen Toyota Hilux only measures 5,325 MM long, and a wheelbase of 3,085 MM.
The new Triton rides on brand-new ladder-frame chassis
As for the mechanical bits, we’ve previously reported that the new Triton model underpins a new ladder-frame chassis that features double-wishbone damper setup for the front axle with its upper-arm mounting being readjusted to provide better ride comfort. Meanwhile, the rear axle gets improved leaf springs instead, which are made lighter and paired with beefier rear shocks – also improving ride comfort and performance.
Hiding beneath the Triton’s hood is a brand-new 2.4-litre 4-cyl 4N16 turbodiesel mill that comes with various state-of-tune. The lowest output option spurs 148 HP and 330 NM, followed by the mid-output version that delivers up to 181 HP and 430 NM. In its highest state-of-tune form, this new mill is capable of delivering 201 HP and 470 NM – making it more powerful than the previous-gen Triton’s 4N15 mill.
Said mill is mated to either a six-speed automatic or manual transmissions, with the former being offered as standard to the maxed-out double cab 4WD model. Aside from that, the range-topping 4WD variant also gets the highest state-of-tune for its engine, as well as Mitsubishi’s proprietary Super Select 4WD-II and Easy Select 4WD all-wheel drive (AWD) system, accompanied by a torque-sensing limited-slip differential (LSD).
On board, the next-gen Triton comes with an overhauled interior design, featuring a new front dash design that follows the ‘Horizontal Axis’ concept, complemented with several geometrical shapes. Crowning above the front dash is a new touchscreen infotainment system that now supports Mitsubishi Connect app for the telematics function, enabling owners to check on their cars remotely, as well as tracking them from the convenience of their smartphones.
Elsewhere, drivers get a familiar-looking steering wheel derived from the Evo X, with a fully-digital instrument display hiding beneath it. As for the seats, Mitsubishi claims the front ones now come with better lower back support as well as higher hip point for better passenger comfort. Topping off the Triton’s cabin amenities list are a slew of storage compartments and cup holders, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, as well as a wireless charging pad.
Following its global debut in Thailand, the third-gen Mitsubishi Triton will make its market entry in several ASEAN regional markets, including Malaysia. As for now, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has yet to publish any official statements pertaining to the new Triton’s debut into our local market. Judging by how swiftly Thai-bound models made their way into our market, we estimated that the new Triton will be launched in Malaysia in about a year’s time, most probably in Q3 or Q4 of 2024.
So folks, what do you think of the next-gen Triton? Keen to see this new truck take on the likes of the Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max in our local market soon? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
