Casio Edifice Initial D x MF Ghost Limited Edition Watch Now in Malaysia for RM2.4K!
Watches are some of the best gift ideas for automotive enthusiasts and petrolheads alike. While many luxury watchmakers opt to partner up with fellow luxury marques and motorsport teams, some mid-tier watch brands like Casio go for collaborations with motorsport-related pop-culture icons instead, thus providing an avenue for us normal folks to get our hands on some serious motorsport merchandise for nish.
In their latest cross collaboration, Casio has partnered up with Japanese manga artist Shuichi Shigeno, the man behind famed street racing manga and anime series, Initial D and its sequel, MF Ghost, in producing the limited edition Casio Edifice Intial D x MF Ghost watch.
Now available in Malaysia, this collaboration sees Casio Edifice Sospensione model codenamed ECB-2000MFG-1A being donned in red and black design inspired by the Toyota GT 86 driven by MF Ghost protagonist Kanata Rivington. Stamped on the watch’s dial base and underside of the leather band is the Japanese katakana character spelled ‘Gyaaa’, which mimics the sound of tyres screeching when a car is drifting.
Also stamped underside of the leather band is the ‘Fujiwara Tofu Shop (Private Use)’ Japanese lettering famously donned by the Initial D’s Toyota AE86, driven by the series protagonist Takumi Fujiwara. Meanwhile, the back side of the watch case boasts an engraving of both Initial D and MF Ghost logos, aside from the usual watch brandings and specifications.
On the upside of the strap lies a number of black printings that spelled out each of the MFG time-attack courses featured in MF Ghost manga, beginning from the Round 1 at Odawara Pikes Peak to the Round 5 dubbed as Atami Ghost.
Despite its rough-looking analogue facade, the Edifice Sospensione watch boasts a plethora of hi-tech features, including Tough Solar charging, double LED Super Illuminator, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The latter feature enables users to link the watch with their devices via Casio’s mobile app that enables Smartphone Link and Find Your Phone features.
Aside from the leather strap and metal bezel and case, the Edifice Sospensione comes with sapphire crystal glass that can sustain scratch exceptionally well.
The Casio Edifice Initial D x MF Ghost watch is listed on Casio Malaysia’s official website for a relatively reasonable price tag of RM2,399, though quite hefty as far as any Casio models go. Nevertheless, Initial D x MF Ghost fans, petrolheads and watch collectors would find no problem spending that much of their money in order to attain this special edition model, which will surely skyrocket in price once it gets into the used/collectibles market spaces.
