New Bugatti Tourbillon Hypercar Bows With New 1,775 HP V16 Hybrid Heart!

As anticipated, French-rooted hypercar brand Bugatti unveiled the successor to its Chiron earlier today called the Tourbillon. Named after the tiny mechanism that maintains accuracy in high-end watches, the Bugatti Tourbillon arrives exactly 20 years after the Veyron too.

We’ll get straight into the key highlight, that being the Tourbillon’s powertrain. Unlike its Veyron and Chiron predecessors that packed a signature 8.0-litre W16 mill with quad-turbos, the Tourbillon instead packs an all-new and Cosworth-developed 8.3-litre V16 mill.

Yes, the new V16 is in fact naturally aspirated, and it is augmented by a trio of e-motors - one on each front wheel plus another over the rear axle - plus a 25 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted in the chassis’ ‘spine’ section.

On its own, the V16 mill is rated at 986 HP and boasts a 9,000 RPM red-line. Combined, there’s a whopping 1,775 HP of peak power available to allow 0-100 KM/H dashes in just 2.0 secs, 0-200 KM/H in roughly 5.0 secs, and 0-300 KM/H in around 10 secs.

As for top speed (V-Max), the Tourbillon has a claimed ‘default’ figure of 380 KM/H, but brand CEO Mate Rimac - yes, THAT Mate Rimac - says the special ‘speed key’ raises the limit to a mind-boggling 445 KM/H.

Moreover, the electrified elements also enables the Tourbillon with at least 60 KM of pure-electric range too - perfect for those that want to make silent departures or arrivals instead of a raucous, hi-revving one.

Take note that these are just the initial headlining figures as Bugatti has yet to release other details such as peak torque and real world acceleration times. However, we’ll remind you that this is a brand that has historically proven all of its performance promises.

As for size and dimensions, the Tourbillon is a slightly larger vehicle than its Chiron predecessor at 4,671 MM long with a 2,740 MM wheelbase, 2,165 MM wide, and 1,189 MM tall. This growth largely stems from the all-new chassis platform it underpins.

Despite its powerful yet heavy hybrid system, the Tourbillon weighs less than the Chiron thanks to Bugatti’s advanced lightweight engineering. There’s also advanced aerodynamics and cutting-edge materials adopted that significantly reduces emissions whilst enhancing performance.

The Tourbillon’s chassis and body structure are constructed largely from next-generation T800 carbon composites. It incorporates weight-saving innovations like a structural battery and integrated crash composite rear diffuser. The multi-link suspension, 3D-printed aluminium parts, and carbon-ceramic brakes all promise superior performance and handling.

Mate Rimac also adds that the Tourbillon’s development was deeply rooted in the brand’s 115-year legacy and philosophies of its founder Ettore Bugatti. Much inspiration was drawn from Bugatti icons like the Type 57SC Atlantic, the Type 35, and the Type 41 Royale.

According to Bugatti, this iconic design optimises both aerodynamics and thermodynamics. The iconic horseshoe grille, Bugatti Line, central ridge, and dual-colour split are meticulously integrated into the design, reflecting the brand’s heritage while enhancing performance.

In an era dominated by digital screens, Bugatti takes a different approach with the Tourbillon’s cabin too. The interior is designed to be timeless, drawing inspiration from horology but, ironically, you won’t find a tourbillon timepiece here.

Instead, the centrepiece is an analogue instrument cluster  crafted by Swiss watchmakers, featuring over 600 parts and constructed from titanium and gemstones. This cluster remains stationary as the steering wheel rotates around it to ensure an unobstructed view.

The centre console sees a blend of crystal glass and aluminium to showcase intricate workings of the switches and the engine start lever. There’s also a hidden high-definition digital screen that deploys from the console, providing vehicle data and mobile connectivity.

As the Bugatti Tourbillon enters its testing phase, anticipation builds for its 2026 release. Just 250 units are planned, each set to command a starting price of €3.8 million (RM19 million) as well.
