- Keanu Reeves Races The GR86 in Thrilling GR Cup Series Debut
Keanu Reeves competed in the Toyota GR Cup Series as part of the Indy 8 Hour event earlier today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, marking his debut in the Pro-Race series.
Renowned for his roles in movies such as The Matrix, John Wick and Speed, Reeves was in the cockpit of the No.92 BRZRKR car, promoting his graphic novel "The Book of Elsewhere".
Reeves qualified 31st out of 35 drivers and climbed as high as 21st during the race. His most dramatic moment came just past the halfway mark, when he spun his car on Turn 9, sliding across the grass. Fortunately, the spin didn’t result in a collision, and Reeves quickly rejoined the race.
He also expertly avoided a first-lap crash in Turn 14. Ultimately, he finished 25th in the 45-minute race, marking a respectable start to his racing career.
The Toyota GR86 Cup car Reeves piloted is based on the road-going GR86, but equipped with race ready performance upgrades which includes a Bosch engine management system, a six-speed SADEV sequential transmission, Borla exhaust, JRI adjustable suspension and Alcon brakes.
The car is also fitted with a GT86 Cup kit with a unique front splitter tray, a APR GTC-200 carbon fibre wing for improved aerodynamics, lightweight wheels with slick racing tires, and a 83-litre fuel cell for endurance racing. For safety, the GR86 is equipped with a roll cage, essential for high-speed competition.
This wasn’t Reeves’ first foray in the GR86, as he previously won the 2009 Long Beach Grand Prix Pro/Celebrity race. Reeves’ passion for motorsport, whether it’s attending Formula One and Le Mans or co-founding Arch Motorcycle, has clearly prepared him for this moment.
