Orders now open for refreshed Volvo XC40 Recharge - from RM279k

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) have opened up orders for the face-lifted Volvo XC40 Recharge. The compact electric SUV, priced from RM278,888 sans insurance, will be offered in ‘Ultimate’ guise in its 2023 model year form, featuring a host of mild design tweaks with its exterior.
Notably, said price sees the XC40 Recharge continue to enjoy the government’s EV incentives until December 31, 2025 thanks to its status as a locally-assembled (CKD) model.
Highlights of the mild exterior refresh include sleeker LED headlamps, a sportier bumper design with shaper contours and triangular fog lamp surrounds, as well as a blanked-off faux grille sans trim surround. Apart from that, the refreshed exterior is capped off with a set of new 19-inch five-double spoke black diamond cut wheels.

As for available colour options, VCM have added a new Fjord Blue option for this electric-only XC40 variant – the same hue is offered for the non-EV variants of the XC40. Apart from that, the electric XC40 Recharge variant also follows the same footsteps as its combustion-powered siblings in ditching the Touring Chassis for a passive Dynamic Chassis instead.

The refreshment continues on board with the XC40 Recharge’s cabin now sporting new Charcoal Connect Suede textile upholstery instead of the combination leather/Nubuck textile offered previously, the former being paired with leather-free gear shifter trim too.
Next comes backlit Topography trim décor replacing the R-Design Cutting Edge décor featured prior, followed by a PM2.5 air purifier with remote pre-cleaning function, as well as a revised foot movement detection module for the hands-free powered tailgate.

Apart from these aesthetic refreshments, the XC40 Recharge retains the same electric powertrain, as well as both the premium amenities and advanced driver assistance suite as the outgoing model. Starting with the powertrain, the XC40 Recharge harnesses dual-motor setup – one for each axle – that delivers 402 HP (300 kW) and 660 NM, thus allowing 0-100 KM/H in just 4.9 seconds whilst enroute towards a 180 KM’H V-Max.
Said dual-motors are juiced by a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that allows for a maximum travel range of up to 438 KM – a slight increase from the outgoing model’s 418 KM claim. As for charging, both AC @ 11 kW and DC @ 150 kW via CCS2 connection are available, the former requiring up to 7.5 hours for a full recharge whereas the latter requires just 30 minutes to charge from 0 to 80% instead.

As for driving safety, the advanced driver assistance systems retained include the City Safety suite (collision avoidance & mitigation with intersection support; pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection), front and rear collision warning and mitigation support, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Run-Off Road Mitigation with Road Edge Detection, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) with Autobrake.
Lastly, in terms of premium kit, the XC40 Recharge’s list includes highlights such as an Android Automotive OS-powered infotainment system with a 9-inch touchscreen and built-in Google services, a 12-inch digital instrument display panel, a 13-speaker and 600-watt Harman Kardon hi-fi, Qi wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, as well as powered front seats.
