Sam Ke Ting, A Free Woman Now Upon ‘’Basikal Lajak’’ Case In 2017
Sam Ke Ting released by the court on April 11, 2023.
The Malaysian Court of Appeal (COA) has announced, Sam Ke Ting is now been set free after six years of court proceedings upon her ''basikal lajak'' case which caused the death of eight teenagers in Johor, 2017.
A three-judge panel led by Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail who sat together with Datuk Hashim Hamzah and Datuk Azman Abdullah made a unanimous decision thus setting aside the six-year prison sentence and RM6,000 fine by the High Court against Sam Ke Ting, said Bernama.
On April 13 last year, the Johor Bahru High Court ordered the clerk to be punished for the offence she committed in 2017.
The judge, Datuk Abu Bakar Katar, also ordered Sam Ke Ting to serve another six months in prison if she fails to pay the fine, in addition to losing her driving licence for three years effective after completing her prison sentence.
It further put aside the decision of the Magistrate's Court on October 10 of the same year, which upheld the decision to release and acquit respondent Sam Ke Ting of the charges.
Although Clerk Sam Ke Ting is now acquitted and discharged, she told the press that she is still haunted and traumatised by the incident.
