Volvo unwrapped its heavily revised new 2026 model year iteration of its S90 flagship luxury saloon this week.
Chinese-owned Swedish marque Volvo finally unwrapped its heavily revised and new 2026 model year iteration of its S90 flagship saloon this week. As seen in its lifted XC90 SUV twin, there’s a full spread of changes both inside and out.
We’ll start with the latter and the 2026 Volvo S90 gains a new front grille shared with the XC90 model mentioned, plus a pair of sharper new all-LED headlights mirroring those primed in the all-electric ES90 that boasts the marque’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED DRL motif.
Much like what we saw int he XC90, the S90's front end is all-new and mirrors its all-electric S90 twin. Notable here are the signature new front grille design and all-LED headlights flanking it.
On board, Volvo have reportedly beefed up the amount of sound insulation for the cabin to further enhance interior refinement. Part of this also includes the saloon’s adoption of trick adaptive suspension suite across all variants.
Moving on to critical tech and the 11.2-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen primed in the dash has been updated for improved responsiveness. It also now boasts over-the-air (OTA) software update abilities built into it.

On the mechanical front, Volvo is set to offer both B5 mild-hybrid (MHEV) and T8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain choices, much like was we saw in the refreshed XC90 SUV twin mentioned that was recently launched here in Malaysia earlier this month.
For reference, both options share the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mill base, with the PHEV variant’s added electrification set to offer limited electric-only range too – up to 77 KM (WLTP) is touted in the XC90 Ultra T8.
Notably, all variants of the S90 are set to ride on trick adaptive suspension too.
Notably, it seems this heavily revised iteration of Volvo's signature flagship luxury saloon would not be offered in the European or North American markets, at least not immediately. With the latter market, the on-going tariffs situation is partly the reason.
“The S90 is a key part of our product portfolio for the coming years in some of our Asian markets,” says Volvo product and strategy chief Erik Severinson. Read between the lines and it’s clear the Geely-owned marque has earmarked the S90 for key markets like China instead.
Surprisingly, the 2026 Volvo S90 will not be offered across North America and Europe just yet, with Volvo initially earmarking it for China and key Asian markets first.
No word yet on when exactly the heavily revised 2026 Volvo S90 will make landfall here in Malaysia. However, given how its lifted XC90 twin arrived alongside its all-electric EX90 brethren recently, expect the refreshed S90 detailed and ES90 to perhaps to the same sometime next year.
