Xpeng G7 Unveiled – AI-Powered Midsize EV SUV, 702 KM CLTC Range

Making its global debut in China is the all-new Xpeng G7, the brand’s new AI-powered midsize electric SUV.
Chinese automaker Xpeng has expanded its EV lineup in China with the debut of its latest EV SUV, the Xpeng G7. Positioned above the G6 as the brand’s midsize EV SUV, the new G7 also introduces several technological firsts for the automaker, with the biggest highlight being its new AR-HUD system co-developed with Huawei.

We’ll start with the battery bits first, as just like the G6, the new G7 also underpins the same SEPA 2.0 platform with an 800-volt battery architecture. Two battery options will be available—65.8 kWh and 80.8 kWh—with the latter capable of delivering up to 702 km of CLTC range to the G7. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the G7 can support 5C fast charging capabilities, although no exact figures were given by Xpeng.
Powering the G7 is the same single electric motor setup as the G6, delivering 292 hp (218 kW) exclusively to the rear wheels (RWD). No dual-motor AWD models are available for now, but we can expect them to follow up in the near future.

In terms of design, the new G7 adopts the same coupe-ish SUV bodystyle as the G6, albeit featuring more sharp lines and some new design elements. Up front, the G7 adopts the second-gen “X-Face” design language, featuring a full-width LED DRL bar with split headlight modules located below them. They are accompanied by an active front grille on the lower part of the front bumper.

From the side, the G7 looks pretty sleek, featuring a clean side profile with flushed door handles and a rounded greenhouse. Depending on the trim levels, you can get the G7 with either 18- or 20-inch wheels, plus six exterior colours are available, including Starry Grey, Crescent Silver, and Interstellar Green.

The rear part is where the G7 distinguishes itself from the G6, as it sports a full-width taillight bar that is integrated into the rear fenders with C-shaped ends. Its tailgate design has been kept rather clean, with the only notable bits being the Xpeng lettering and the G7 badge.
Dimension-wise, the G7 is slightly larger than the G6, spanning 4,892 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, 1,655 mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

Inside, the G7 gets a pretty typical yet well-equipped cabin setup, with the biggest highlight being the expansive 87-inch AR-HUD setup that spans across the front dash. It supports AR navigation with complex intersection guidance and dynamic lane change prompts using stabilisation, distortion correction, and latency compensation algorithms. Notably, no digital metre clusters are available here, thus showing Xpeng’s confidence in their new AR-HUD setup.

Fancy HUD aside, the G7 gets a slightly more comprehensive and upmarket cabin equipment list over the G6. For starters, all the seats are wrapped in premium Nappa leather upholstery, while the front seats offer massage, heating, and ventilation functions. Other key features include a large central infotainment screen, two 50-watt wireless chargers, a large panoramic sunroof, a 20-speaker audio system, multi-colour ambient lights, and even a password-protected glovebox.

The rear passenger compartment also gets several interesting tech bits, with key highlights including an 8-inch dedicated display that doubles as the climate control panel, a cooled wireless charger integrated into the rear seat armrest, built-in folded tables, and tons of space thanks to the G7’s large facade.

On the safety front, the new G7 comes equipped with a fully visual-based XNGP ADAS suite powered by Turing AI chips. Only available in the top-spec Ultra variant, this visual-based ADAS suite supports high-level driver assistant functions, including both highway and city navigation on pilot (NGP). Thanks to the sublime computing powers of the Turing AI chips, Xpeng claims this system will be able to support Level 3 autonomous driving, despite not featuring LiDARs or other non-visual sensors.

Deliveries for the all-new Xpeng G7 are slated to begin later in Q3 this year, with prices starting from CNY 235,800 (RM139,558) onwards. Similar to the G6, the new G7 will also be competing against other midsize EV SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, and many more.
