ETS 3 Final Phase to Johor Bahru Set for December Launch – MoT
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the final phase of the ETS 3 project to Johor Bahru will be launched this December.
The final phase of the Electric Train Service 3 (ETS 3) to Johor Bahru Sentral is expected to be operational by December this year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
As reported by NST, the MoT minister said the project’s physical infrastructure is now fully completed, with only signalling works remaining.
"Although the ETS 3 service has already been extended to Kluang and will commence on Aug 30, we remain committed to ensuring the line reaches Johor Bahru Sentral before the end of the year.
"At present, the tracks and other infrastructure are complete, with only signalling works pending," he told NST at a press conference earlier today.
The second phase of the ETS 3 to Kluang was officiated by His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar last week.
The first phase of ETS 3 was already operational earlier this year, extending the rail service from Gemas to Segamat, Johor. Meanwhile, the second phase to Kluang is scheduled to begin later this week on Aug 30.
Once the final phase of ETS 3 is fully operational, the journey between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru will be shortened to only between 3.5 and 4.5 hours with this updated ETS rail service.
With the ETS 3 expansion project now in its final phase, Loke said the Transport Ministry would continue to closely monitor projects under its purview to ensure timely completion.
"We will continue to focus on fulfilling our responsibility to improve public mobility.
"Development projects under the Transport Ministry will be closely monitored to ensure they progress as planned and are completed on time,” Loke continued.
More importantly, the minister also added that once fully operational, the ETS service to Johor Bahru would complement other initiatives, such as the implementation of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) at the Malaysia–Singapore border, as well as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) as a whole.
