ETS Segamat–Johor Bahru Extension is On Track, No Delays – MoT

Transport Minister Anthony Loke says the ETS extension project from Segamat to Johor Bahru is on track with no delays.
The ETS extension project from Segamat to Johor Bahru is on track with no delays, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke
Speaking to The Star after opening the ASEAN-China International Rail Transit Forum 2025 earlier today, Loke said things remain on track for the entire stretch of the project, which is scheduled to be ready by "the end of the year."
"It is inaccurate to say that there is a delay. In fact, I have said a few months ago that the project will be completed in phases. The first phase was the opening of the Gemas to Segamat in March (2025)," Loke continued.

The electrification and double tracking project (EDTP) for the ETS line consists of three main phases, with the first one stretching from Gemas to Segamat, the second one covering Segamat to Kluang, and the third one from Kluang to Johor Bahru.
As of now, the ETS service is already running on the stretch of the first phase, while the commencement date for the second phase stretch, which was intended to open before Aug 31, is still pending confirmation from a "very important person" who will be given the honour to drive the first ETS to Kluang.
Loke, however, did not reveal the true identity of said VIP.

Commenting on the perception of the ETS extension project being delayed, the minister explained that the first new train just finished testing, and that is the reason why the ministry was not able to make any announcement any earlier, other than waiting for confirmation from the "VIP train driver."
