2026 Kia Carens Compact MPV Marks ASEAN Debut In Indonesia
The face-lifted 2026 Kia Carens was officially launched in Indonesia earlier this week. Like Malaysia, the Korean marque was recently rebooted in said republic by a principal-led entity.

Whilst Kia Sales Malaysia (KSM) galvanised itself by launching its first new offering in the form of the face-lifted 2026 Kia Carnival full-sized MPV this week, perhaps they should also consider expanding its line-up with something similar but smaller.
This week, the Korean marque’s face-lifted fourth-generation Carens compact MPV model was officially launched in neighbouring Indonesia, marking its debut in the ASEAN region.
Like Malaysia, the Kia marque also relaunched itself in Indonesia under a principal-led Kia Sales Indonesia (KSI) entity recently. Their first new offering from said entity for the MPV-crazed republic is indeed an aptly justified choice.

Malaysia last saw the Carens in its second-gen form where it was locally assembled and badged as the Citra and Rondo by Naza Kia then.

If the nameplate sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you may remember its first- and second-gen predecessors – they were locally assembled (CKD) and badged as the Citra and Rondo respectively by then assemblers and distributors Naza Kia.
The third-gen Carens, produced from 2013 to 2019, did not make landfall, but this new fourth-gen model launched in Indonesia just might. As a refresher, the fourth-gen Carens first debuted in India back in Dec 2021 and it even has an all-electric (EV) twin called the Clavis.
No EV powertrain choice was announced. Instead, the Carens for Indonesia has two petrol powertrain choices offered.

However, it appears said EV choice remains an India-only proposition. Instead, the Indonesian market model sees the choice between a 1.4-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol plus CVT box pairing, or the familiar 1.5-litre 4-cyl petrol nat-asp unit paired with a CVT automatic.
The former, rated at 140 PS and 242 Nm, is brimmed in the range-topping 6-seater guise, whereas the latter choice powers the mid-specced 6-seater and base-spec 7-seater guises, offering respectable outputs of 115 PS and 144 Nm instead.
Notably, Indonesia also gets the latest face-lifted version that brings the Kia marque’s latest signature design touches – ‘Star Map’ LED DRLs and taillights, ‘Ice Cube’ LED headlights, as well as sleek front and rear bumpers, all accounted for.

The 2026MY face-lifted version brings a number of current touches from Kia, namely its 'Star Map' LED lighting, 'Ice Cube' headlights, sleeker bumpers, and more.

On board, the 6-seater guises naturally bring posh second-row captain seats – you’ll get a three-seat second-row bench in the 7-seater instead. Notably, there’s an automatic climate control suite brimmed, along with dedicated rear passenger blowers plus ventilated seats.
Other amenities brimmed include an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 8-speaker Bose audio suite, 4.2-inch TFT LCD instrument display, LED “Mood Lamp”, tire pressure monitor (TPMS), wireless charger, and more.
As for safety, this Indonesian market offering stands rather basic – 6 airbags, ABS brakes with traction and stability control (TCS and ESC) suites, as well as both Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Braking Control (DBC), are all brimmed across the board.

Besides the choice between 6- and 7-seats, the 2026 Kia Carens boasts a richly-equipped cabin full of high-tech and luxurious amenities. What this Indonesian market model actually lacks are ADAS functions.

For now, it appears the Indonesian-spec version detailed has no advanced driving assistance (ADAS) features. However, we’ll point out the Indian market version does – it packs up to 20 ADAS features, bringing Level 2 semi-autonomy even.
As for price, the 2026 Kia Carens in Indonesia commands between IDR420 million and IDR430 million – approx. RM100,843 and RM103,244. Clearly, this Korean fighter stands to fight against popular Toyota Kijang and Veloz, Mitsubishi Xpander, and Honda BR-V.
Do you reckon this Kia stands a chance to go up against said Japanese rivals that are here too? Maybe perhaps give local rivals like the Perodua Alza and Proton X90 too? What sort of pricing should it command? Share your take in the comments below…
