Chery Fulwin X3L Debuts As iCaur 03’s Beefed-Up, Extended-Range Sibling
Chery has officially launched the Fulwin X3L in China, a model that takes the boxy, youthful design of the iCaur 03 and transforms it into something larger, tougher, and far more versatile.
If the recently introduced iCaur 03 EV in Malaysia is an urban-friendly crossover, the Fulwin X3L is its adventure-ready counterpart built on steroids. At first glance, the family resemblance is obvious. Both share the same squared-off silhouette, hidden door handles, and clean surfacing.
The Fulwin X3L is offered in four configurations, priced between RMB119,900 (RM71,000) and RMB159,900 (RM94,000). That positions the Fulwin as a direct rival to other adventure-ready extended-range SUVs in China, but at a price point that undercuts many of them.
The Fulwin X3L stretches to 4,545 mm in length and rides on a longer 2,783 mm wheelbase, giving it a more commanding presence. The SUV also adds serious off-road hardware, including a ground clearance of 225 mm and, in AWD form, massive 21-inch wheels wrapped in 265 mm tyres, a rarity in its class.
The rear is reimagined with a side-opening tailgate and a small external storage box, perfect for wet or muddy gear after outdoor excursions. Chery is also leaning heavily into modularity, offering a roof rack system rated for 75 kg, side ladders, step boards, drone mounts, and even a backpack with its own smart display.
The Fulwin isn’t just a car, much like the iCaur 03 it’s being pitched as a lifestyle platform.
Inside, the rugged design theme continues, but without compromising on technology. The cockpit is anchored by a 15.6-inch central screen powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip, alongside a full LCD instrument cluster.
Smart driving is handled by Chery’s Falcon 500 system, which uses end-to-end algorithms to enable mapless highway navigation, urban memory driving, trajectory-based reversing, and multi-level automated parking.
Under the skin, the Fulwin X3L uses Chery’s Kunpeng Golden CEM-S extended-range setup, blending a 1.5T engine with electric motors. Buyers can choose between single-motor and dual-motor AWD configurations. The former produces 248 hp and 300 Nm, while the latter unleashes 422 hp and 505 Nm, enabling a blistering 0–100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds.
Pure EV range is offered between 135 km and 215 km depending on variant, while the overall range stretches beyond 1,200 km, making it ideal for long-distance travel.
The contrast with the iCaur 03 is striking. In Malaysia, the iCaur comes as a pure EV with 181–275 hp and a range of up to 371 km, designed for daily urban and suburban use.. The Fulwin X3L, meanwhile, takes the same styling DNA but layers it with hybrid versatility, off-road ability, and a suite of lifestyle add-ons.
In short, the Fulwin X3L is less about sleek electrification and more about capability. It’s a reminder that while the iCaur 03 will cater to city streets, Chery’s ambitions for the Fulwin reach far beyond the pavement.
The question now is whether we’ll one day see it reach our shores under the iCaur namesake…only time will tell.
