ECRL Project In Terengganu Reaches 55% Progress
Malaysia Railway Link Sdn Bhd said in a statement the construction of East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project in Terengganu has reached a progress level of 55.21 percent.
The route in Terengganu holds the longest line compared to the other three states namely Kelantan, Pahang and Selangor which is 275 KM long from a total of 665 KM and estimated to cost a sum of RM 50.27 billion.
So far, the construction work on the said project in Terengganu is set to be on track and scheduled to be fully completed by December 2026.
From there it includes the construction of six stations namely Jerteh, Bandar Permaisuri, Kuala Terengganu and Kemasik which function as passenger stations while Dungun and Chukai are for the purpose of passengers and cargo.
Separately, construction work for the entire 665 KM ECRL line project from Kota Bharu, Kelantan to Port Klang, Selangor has an overall progress level of 40.81 percent, according to Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak.
"Out of that amount, there are 21 km of tunnels in Selangor and there are approximately 31 km of bridges that will be built in the Selangor line," he added.
Meanwhile, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project involving the Selangor line is considered to be the most critical compared to the other three states, as reported by local news online.
He further stated that the construction of the C1B alignment in the northern part of the state is seen as complex because it involves various types of construction in addition to bridges and tunnels.
"I say it is critical because we started this ECRL project in 2017, stopped for a while in July 2018 and resumed in April 2019.
‘’We got approval from the state government for us to implement the ECRL project through the northern line starting December 2021 and we can only start construction work with good cooperation from all state and federal departments and agencies which give us approval in June 2022,’’ the exec said.
The service is expected to be operational in January 2027 and can accommodate 5.6 million passengers a year aside from also can carry 440 passengers for a trip involving six carriages.
